Yankee See Yankee Do

Now would you look at that? The Yankees are in first place again.Call it a mid-summer surge. With the Bronx Bombers sweeping the Detroit Tigers over the weekend and sweeping the Orioles, the reeling Boston Red Sox are once again looking up at these Yankees. What makes this even sweeter, the Yankees were have said to be left for dead, not being able to compete with Boston(losing every game so far against them) and now they are in the mix to try and trade for the coveted Roy Halladay of the Blue Jays. Halladay kept the Bo Sox on pins and needles when he faced them over the weekend. The pitching for the Yankees is said to be weak, so adding Halladay along with CC Sabthia and A.J. Burnett to the starting rotation, will cause problems for any team, never mind the Sox.After being swept before the All-Star break by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Yankees put it in true second half form by wracking up six straight games. On the other hand, the Red Sox have lost five straight. This is something that usually happened in the Joe Torre era. Not so much in the Joe Girardi era. They finished up the Baltimore Orioles completing the sweep.
Now they are looking at the Oakland Athletics. They begin a four-game weekend series with them, with the 9-6 Sabathia (their ace for now) facing the 2-6 Vin Mazzaro. Their offense is kicking right now and if you are the opposing pitcher, you had better hit your spots, or A-Rod and the rest of the boys will make you pay. SO you want to go after their weak pitching, I think not. In their current 6-game win streak their pitchers have given up a total of 14 runs. The most runs charged to them came in their final two games against the Orioles. They won both games 6-4. 4 runs being the most runs charged to a pitching staff within a 6-game streak are phenomenal. Hopefully their Bats and pitching keep up.
On a lighter note, the Red Sox made a move yesterday to try and keep the Yankees in their reach. They traded for Adam Laroche from the Pittsburgh Pirates and ironically enough, they traded for outfielder Chris Duncan from the St. Louis Cardinals, which is New York Yankee first baseman Shelley Duncan’s brother. Will they work? Wait until October and then we will see.
